When one of the world’s oldest and most traditional monarchies jumps on the social networking bandwagon, you know it’s time to get with the times!

A recent report from the BBC announced that Buckingham Palace’s Twitter account has just gone live following weeks of testing.

According to a royal spokesperson, the family turned to Twitter in an attempt to spread news about royal events and, hopefully, increase the popularity of this British institution.

The first royal tweets have already been sent (!) and include a link to a YouTube video of Prince William (I’m not kidding!) and some recent photos of the Queen herself.
