I’ve been working on the development of a global internal mobile culture for Greenpeace for over a year and one of my dreams was to hold a conference in the Philippines.
And last week, this important milestone in this work with Greenpeace became a reality when 20 mobile champions from 10 offices came together in the global mobile phone capital, Manila.
Everyday, 2 billions SMS’s are sent in Philippines. Don’t call a Taxi, text one! If you need to report a crime, text the police. As soon as you arrive at the airport, tourist information invites you to give them your mobile phone number so that they can provide you with information on the many wonders of this country by, you guessed it, text message!
The social sector is not indifferent to this SMS revolution either. In a great presentation from Richard Villane, head of fundraising, 1.8 million pesos ( around$US 200,000) were donated by SMS in just 5 days! 1 million SMS were sent in total.
Issues just as Social Mobile, mobile strategic planning, mobile content, communication integration, fundraising and campaigning were some of the many issues on the agenda during these three intensive days.
And of course, the conference ended Filipino style, with a Karaoke party!
