A democratic idea to improve the world.
Thursday, March 5th, 2009During a recent talk I gave at the Plató Hospital in Barcelona, I had the good fortune of meeting Jil van Eyle, whose innovative and highly creative initiative, “Teaming” has revolutionized, and democratised corporate social responsibility via a system of micro-donations .
Teaming in a company means that every employee who wishes to get involved, makes a monthly contribution of 1 Euro (or 1 dollar or 1 peso) from their pay check. These donations are then collected by the company for which they work and donated to a charity or cause that the employees have decided to support collectively – what I believe to be the most innovative aspect of the project.
There are no administrative costs involved, the financial impact on the individual donor is minimal and the collective funds raised are significant for the charity chosen. What’s more, employees are able to collectively decide who to support, which does wonders for the social standing of the company with its employees.
Some comments about Teaming ..
“Teaming shows that helping is not that difficult. If we just unite ourselves, we can help a lot of people. Teaming is a first step to achieve this goal.” (Shakira)
“In football, teamwork is the key to winning matches and titles. Teamwork between companies, employees and foundations, however, can contribute to something much more important. Teaming can actually save lives by helping those that need it the most.” (Frank Rijkaard)
