A few weeks ago, during my recent trip to Berlin, with Amnesty International, I noticed these posters scattered absolutely everywhere around the city.
At first, I didn’t pay them a lot of attention – Berlin is littered with grafiti, advertisements for rock concerts and various other elements of youth culture.
However, when I finally stopped for a closer look, I realised that what I originally thought were posters to advertise the next big thing in the pop world, were actually posters publicising an H&M campaign for Fashion Against Aids.
Imagine, H&M, a brand which is currently listed in Wikipedia as being worth US$11 billion, promotes its charitable causes with rock posters pasted up on urban walls! No classy billboards or expensive television advertising for them!
Ingenius!! What better way to hit home with the target than to run a campaign in the exact same way that they would…when promoting their garage bands or club nights. Simple, cheap and even a multi-billion-dollar company is getting onboard!
When in Rome indeed!
