Italy reaches global SMS milestone!
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009Official figures released yesterday show that around 18 million Euros have been raised via SMS to help those left homeless by the Abruzzo earthquake in Italy this April.
All of the country’s telecommunications companies participated in the fundraising, charging no fee for their services.
“The fundraising service which was set up right after the earthquake and accessible for all phone operators, collected 18 million euros ($25.6m), 11 million ($15.6,) of that by Telecom Italia,” said Oscar Cichetti, a domestic market executive in an interview with Italy’s state radio RAI.
