The constant snow-storms failed to stop work for the SOS Kinderdorf team in Innsbruck, Austria, where I’m working with them on the development of a communications and marketing strategy.

It was also incredibly inspiring to visit the first village in Imst, founded in 1949, especially given that there are now over 500 in 132 countries!

On the day of evolutionary biologist, Charles Darwin’s 200^th birthday, we at marceloiniarra.com would like to pay tribute to a man who dared to be different…and succeeded.

It was during Darwin’s five year voyage to South America, and specifically in Patagonia, where he determined that there exists no unbridgeable gap between humans and animals. And his Origin of Species, soon became a staple scientific text.

Despite suffering from prolonged illness, and coming up against criticism for his theories, Darwin continued with his experiments, research and writing, on topics as diverse as insect pollination to the evolution of society and of human mental abilities.

And it certainly paid off! Darwin’s theories and writings now form the basis off all modern biology.

This comment from my friend gives an alternative opinion on the article from the perspective of the 2009 global financial crisis.

“I think it’s particularly timely given all of the doom and gloom we are currently hearing about the global financial crisis. I think, digital “trysumer” opportunities could be a good way to help alleviate the impact of the economic crisis and keep existing and potential supporters engaged. I also think that with the emergence and rapid development of new technologies, trysumer opportunities are not just a new opportunity but a must if big organizations want to remain relevant. As technology has enabled even the smallest actors to reach masses of people, largely because they are offering alternative ways of engagement combined with a great “cause,” larger brands have to seriously consider.
People have a multitude of choices now. This combined with the fact that content/campaigns can be distributed and instant throughout the internet means that we have new ways to engage new supporters but many of these new supporters on facebook, twitter, etc will want to align with a “cause”first and see the impact of their action rather than making a financial commitment upfront”.
