AFP New Media and Innovation Mexican Tour
Wednesday, June 6th, 2007Mexico City and Guadalajara sessions

This unbelievable mural “Man at crossroads looking with hope and high vision to the choosing of a new and better future” from Diego Rivera was just few meters from the Sheraton Centro Historico in Mexico City where Hemispheric Fundraising Conference was held.
Over 400 professional from Latin America and North America were immersed in the fever of dozens of sessions for two days and a half.
The opening had a couple of surprises, the first one presented by Paulette Maehara, CEO of the Association of Fundraising Professional- AFP. She shocked me, presenting that Fundraising is not anymore fundraising in the way that we knew in the past, Fundraising is facing new challenges and we need to see Fundraising as Marketing. I’ve involved with AFP for many years and this statement shown at the beginning of the conference a first innovation aspect.
Following Paulette’s introduction, I had the chance to present my “innovative cook session†at the main opening show leading by Daryl Upsall “Master Chef†from DUCI – Spain. Daryl’s used cooking metaphor to add some “Mexican chili pepper†to the conference. The full panel was by Gonzalo Guzman del Rio, Norma Galafassi , Daniel Yoffe , Gonzalo Ibarra and Elyser Tato.
I presented two sessions one about New media and other one about Innovation with a great level of participation
I really would thank you, Bernard Ross from the Management Center in London at the closing session to mentioned my work as one of the three highlighted cases of his presentation. Web 2.0 projects like “No Whaling the Virtual March†and “I GO†had the added value of the support from Bernard as a coach in the early stage.

Good morning Guadalajara, I’m very please to be here! I said. The answer was quite noisy 77 participants from 49 organizations were in the room of ITESO. A dynamic group of volunteers from AFP produced a very professional promotion of this two days workshop. It was the first training ever developed by AFP in this huge city of 5 millions inhabitants.
Marcela Garcia Batiz, president of the AFP chapter , Luis Pacheco Post Graduate Manager from ITESO and Brad Henderson AFP Regional manager for Latin America opened the workshop formally.
